The Team
Amy Ippoliti

Amy is a yoga teacher, writer, and philanthropist. She is known for her innovative methods to bridge the gap between ancient yoga wisdom and modern day life, helping yoga students “turn up their own volume.”

After years of feeling powerless to help her teacher training graduates actually survive as yoga teachers, she started studying business, marketing, finances and technology. In 2010, when she felt confident enough to share what she had learned, she created “90 Minutes to Change the WorldTM”. This professional development program inspired her and Taro Smith to found 90 Monkeys.

Amy’s passion is to help yoga teachers thrive not only in their teaching technique, but also as professionals.  There is nothing more rewarding for her than hearing about how 90 Monkeys graduates have changed the lives of their students.

When not working with the Monkeys team, Amy serves as a featured instructor for (the leading online yoga provider). She has graced the covers of Yoga Journal and Fit Yoga Magazine and has been featured in Yoga International, Self, Origin Magazine, New York Magazine, Yogini Magazine (Japan), Allure (Korea), Elephant Journal, MindBodyGreen and many more. She is also a faculty member at the Omega Institute, Esalen and Kripalu.

Taro Smith
Taro Smith, Ph.D.

Taro is a scientist, athlete, entrepreneur and philanthropist.  He has nearly two decades developing innovative organizations in the health and wellness field.  He was instrumental in bringing exercise prescriptions as a standard of care in aging and chronic disease in the medical community.  His research in the areas of exercise, aging, chronic disease and immune function have been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. Taro directed programs that have helped a wide range of patient populations ranging from Olympic level cyclists to the world’s oldest pilot.

His earliest memory of yoga was at age five practicing sun salutations.  A severe hip and back injury many years ago brought Taro to think about the role that yoga can play in therapeutics from a holistic standpoint.  Yoga helped balance his western training with his eastern roots and bring a full spectrum (mind-body-spirit) approach to looking at the body.  A certified yoga teacher, he specializes in therapeutic yoga programs (aging, pain, orthopedics) and yoga for sports (cycling, stand up paddle boarding).   He co-directs therapeutic yoga teacher trainings with Amy Ippoliti around the world.

He is a former elite cyclist and skier and spends his free time on marine conservation, art, and photography.  He is a University of Colorado– Boulder graduate with a Ph.D. in Integrative Physiology.

Chelsea Richer
Video Production Director

Born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI, Chelsea Richer has a BFA in Video Art and Production from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. A filmmaker first and a teacher at heart, Chelsea believes education should nurture the soul. When she is not in her editing cave or behind the camera, she is actively engaged in creating discussions among college students who are interested in leading more grounded lifestyles. She founded Tuning the Student Mind, a non-profit that addresses the sociological and cultural impacts on identity and aids in introducing students to their most authentic self by way of practices such as meditation, yoga, healthy eating and sustainable living.

As an RYT, Chelsea is eager to voluntarily give the gift of yoga when and where she can. Currently she is teaching yoga to 2nd and 3rd graders at McGlone Elementary in Denver.

Rob Jackson

Rob is a documentary filmmaker who focuses on environmental and social issues. He has Co-Produced two films about the rivers of Chilean Patagonia and the fight to keep them free. Most recently Rob edited the DVD extras for the acclaimed 2012 documentary, Chasing Ice. His cinematography and editing work has appeared in numerous film festivals around the world as well as on National Geographic, PBS, Outside Television and more.

Although he is a rookie to yoga, Rob loves the discipline and looks forward to deepening his practice. One major step in his steady advancement in yoga will be Rob’s role as a cinematographer for 90 Monkeys!

Haruko Smith
Communications Director

Haruko moved to Colorado in 2012 with a diverse array of international experiences in business and non-profit management under her belt. She has lived in Tokyo, SF Bay Area, Paris, and NYC, and finds life in the Rockies to be the most agreeable.

Her professional experiences have always paralleled her personal interests in the arts & culture and business & technology. Most recently, having come out as a geek, she loves being in charge of our website operation and helping customers by problem-solving tech (and non-tech) issues.

She is a graduate of Sophia University in Tokyo with a degree in mathematics, and has studied French at Alliance Française in Paris. In addition to being a yogi, she is a ballet dancer, figure-skater, and nordic skier. In the spring her interests extend to hiking, gardening, and floral design.

She was born on a farm in Iowa on August 9, 2016. She became a mountain dog in the Colorado Rockies, but occasionally travels to Boulder and even to Tokyo with us.  Her specialties are Downdog (of course!) and “Squid pose” – totally flat on the floor with arms and legs stretched out.  She is working on mastering Savasana.
