The Team
Kenny Landis

Director of Logistics & Communication | Teacher Training Support Faculty

Kenny’s journey into yoga has been a series of happen chances starting from his first yoga class in a group fitness class at his gym years ago.  His journey has always paralleled between his success in the traditional corporate environment with his passion for the study of yoga and the interplay they have in our modern culture of the “more is more” mentality.  Throughout his time as both a student and teacher of yoga, Kenny has had the great opportunity to study with many of yoga’s contemporary wisdom keepers and yoga luminaries.

After many years on the mat, he stumbled yet again onto the idea of bringing some of his most influential teachers and wish-list teachers to his home community in the pacific northwest.  In 2014, he co-founded YogaLab NorthWest as the leading yoga training & workshop-based production company attracting international teachers from around the globe to the Seattle & Portland area.

Kenny, a longtime student of Amy Ippoliti & 90 Monkeys, officially joined the 90 Monkeys team in 2016 as the Director of Logistics & Communication bringing his business acumen and experience in training & development to support the expansion of programs.  In his time with 90 Monkeys, Kenny has helped to develop the On the Road ProgramTeacher Mentorship Program, Expanded 200-hour Teacher Training format, Module Development for the 500-hour Teacher Training Program, and supported Amy around the globe as support faculty for trainings & workshops.

He views yoga as a practice of introspection and personal growth built on the foundation, we lay for ourselves daily. He is enthralled with the endless journey that combines the calming of your mind, tuning into every fiber of your body, and the pure athleticism of dynamic asana and their ability to transform our lives. Kenny’s studies of the 90 Monkeys Method have solidified his beliefs that every yoga teacher should have the opportunity to flourish and the alignment focus of the 90 Monkey Method can be layered on top of any style of yoga in order to help increase our longevity!

Amy Ippoliti
Co-Founder

Amy is a yoga teacher, writer, and philanthropist. She is known for her innovative methods to bridge the gap between ancient yoga wisdom and modern day life, helping yoga students “turn up their own volume.”

After years of feeling powerless to help her teacher training graduates actually survive as yoga teachers, she started studying business, marketing, finances and technology. In 2010, when she felt confident enough to share what she had learned, she created “90 Minutes to Change the WorldTM”. This professional development program inspired her and Taro Smith to found 90 Monkeys.

Amy’s passion is to help yoga teachers thrive not only in their teaching technique, but also as professionals.  There is nothing more rewarding for her than hearing about how 90 Monkeys graduates have changed the lives of their students.

When not working with the Monkeys team, Amy serves as a featured instructor for Glo.com (the leading online yoga provider). She has graced the covers of Yoga Journal and Fit Yoga Magazine and has been featured in Yoga International, Self, Origin Magazine, New York Magazine, Yogini Magazine (Japan), Allure (Korea), Elephant Journal, MindBodyGreen and many more. She is also a faculty member at the Omega Institute, Esalen and Kripalu.

Taro Smith, Ph.D.
Co-Founder

A scientist, yoga teacher, author, photographer, and conservationist, Taro has over two decades starting, operating and developing innovative organizations in the health and wellness fields. He was instrumental in bringing exercise prescriptions as a standard of care in aging and chronic disease in the medical community. Through his medical centers and scientific research he demonstrated the significant cost benefits of movement-based interventions in clinical settings.

Taro has been published on the topics of exercise, aging, chronic disease, and immune function in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He has directed programs that have helped a wide range of patient populations ranging from Olympic level cyclists to the world’s oldest pilot. Early to the confluence of digital technologies and healthcare, he currently specializes in developing strategy for organizations in yoga, health, and wellness.

As a yoga teacher, his focus is on the development of therapeutic yoga programs for aging, pain, orthopedics, chronic disease, and sports. In 2012, he co-founded 90 Monkeys to empower yoga teachers with the teaching skills and business knowledge to better serve their communities. 90 Monkeys has now worked with over 6000 yoga teachers around the world. Most recently he served on the executive team at Glo (formerly Yogaglo) as their Chief Content Officer. There he managed all aspects of content including teacher, e-learning, programs, analytics and successfully curated the largest digital yoga library in the world serving a global audience.

Taro has presented at Yoga Journal LIVE, Wanderlust, and Hanuman Festival and co-authored The Art and Business of Teaching Yoga published by New World Library.

A former elite cyclist and skier, he splits his time with marine conservation and photography. Taro is a University of Colorado – Boulder graduate with a Ph.D. in Integrative Physiology.

Haruko Smith
Communications Director

Haruko moved to Colorado in 2012 with a diverse array of international experiences in business and non-profit management under her belt. She has lived in Tokyo, SF Bay Area, Paris, and NYC, and finds life in the Rockies to be the most agreeable.

Her professional experiences have always paralleled her personal interests in the arts & culture and business & technology. Most recently, having come out as a geek, she loves being in charge of our website operation and helping customers by problem-solving tech (and non-tech) issues.

She is a graduate of Sophia University in Tokyo with a degree in mathematics, and has studied French at Alliance Française in Paris. In addition to being a yogi, she is a ballet dancer, figure-skater, and nordic skier. In the spring her interests extend to hiking, gardening, and floral design.

Snowflake

She was born on a farm in Iowa on August 9, 2016. She became a mountain dog in the Colorado Rockies, but occasionally travels to Boulder and even to Tokyo with us.  Her specialties are Downdog (of course!) and “Squid pose” – totally flat on the floor with arms and legs stretched out.  She is working on mastering Savasana.
