Tip for Yoga Studios: Show ‘Em Where it All Goes Down!

Tip: If you run a yoga studio, consider including photos of your studio space(s) on your website for people to view before they come.

When I look for a place to practice yoga, I research the teacher and whether the class is a fit for my body and my mood. I consider the type of yoga, parking and location. In addition, I want to know what the environment will be like in the space where I’ll be practicing.

However, I’ve noticed that the majority of studio websites don’t actually have a picture of the practice space online for students to see!

To some, caring about the space or what it looks like might sound inconsequential. After all so many see our external environment as irrelevant to yoga with so much inward reflection in the practice.

That said, our environment is part of the company we keep. It changes and influences us whether we like it or not. A tranquil and beautiful space can uplift and inspire us to create more meaning in our lives. Space can also shift or spark our practice on the mat in different ways.

The reality is I will practice anywhere I can fit a yoga mat or even without one, but life is short, so given the chance I will choose to spend my time in a nurturing and beautiful environment over a not-so-uplifting space.

Just as we want to view a hotel room online before booking – some want to see where they’ll be practicing before they commit (to a class, a punch card or a workshop). So I say show ’em where it all goes down and proudly post a picture of your space!

There are different ways to feature your studio’s space online. It can be presented as the featured home page photo or part of a slideshow of photos on your home page. It can be a link in a drop down menu from your navigation bar or part of a photo gallery of your yoga studio’s community and facility.

If possible, hire a professional photographer to capture your studio’s essence. Just like students want to know how much it costs to take a class they might just want a peek at the space before committing too!

Please leave a comment below with your thoughts on featuring your yoga studio’s picture online and if you do already post your studio’s picture online – show it to us by leaving the link on our Facebook wall – we’d love to see it!
